TRIPLEX MODEL SHOE
I am to create a shoe out of triplex board. It should be of a scale of 1:1. The goal is to create an exact replica of the reference shoe by manipulating the triplex, using the necessary tools, to conform to the original shoe. Details are going to be one of the focal points of this project. In all of this, the triplex is to be kept in its original state.
Activity 1: Full Model Shoe
The above photo grid depicts my shoe making process. The following tools were used to create the shoe: Craft knife, Bostic clear glue, Triplex board, Clutch pencil, Masking tape, scissors, and a cutting mat. The masking tape was for creating the templates. I used a clutch pencil to trace out the outline of the actual shoe on the masking tape. I then transferred the masking tape onto the triplex and cut it out on the cutting mat with a craft knife. I used the scissors to trim the edges. The bostic glue secured the different parts together.
However, the glue was problematic as it was taking time to set. To counter that, I used pegs to secure parts in place whilst waiting for the glue to set.
Activity 2: Half Model Shoe
For this activity, I had to create an exact replica of half of the shoe. Considering how I worked with triplex before, it was a bit easier to make the half shoe.
However, maintaining the structure of the shoe proved to be slightly difficult. I had to create several layers and make use of larger surface areas to glue the different parts in place.
Activity 3: Negative space shoe
This activity required me to create a mould for the half shoe. This was particularly difficult considering how it was literally the reverse process of what I had been doing. I used tabs to secure the shoe in the interior of the box whilst having the negative space as detailed as possible in the exterior.
